Senior Advocate Pradeep Rai’s decisive victory in the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) elections has solidified his position as one of the country’s most influential legal figures. With a total of 822 votes, Rai secured a substantial margin of 371 votes over his nearest competitor, Senior Advocate Anupam Lal Das, who received 451 votes.

The SCBA elections, held on August 18, 2026, saw a high level of participation among the association’s members, with a total of seven candidates vying for the presidency. The final tally revealed a significant gap between Rai and Das, with the remaining candidates trailing behind:
- Aadish Agarwalla received 412 votes, placing him third in the count.
- Gaurav Bhatia secured 370 votes, closely followed by Agarwalla.
- Sukumar received 269 votes, while former High Court Chief Justice Siddharth Mridul secured 217 votes, indicating a strong showing from those with judicial backgrounds.
- Mahalakshmi Pavani, with 128 votes, rounded out the field.
The wide range of vote counts, from Rai’s 822 to Pavani’s 128, shows the competitive nature of the election and the diverse preferences among SCBA members. Notably, Mridul’s inclusion in the race highlighted the high stature and experience required to compete for the presidency.
Accompanying the presidential result, Senior Advocate Rahul Kaushik was elected Vice President with a substantial majority, indicating the confidence SCBA members have in his abilities. Pragya Baghel, another prominent advocate, was elected Secretary, further strengthening the association’s leadership.
